Creative Oracy
Creative Oracy is a practical website for educators who are keen to develop their understanding of oracy and how to use it effectively in the classroom. Created by educators, for educators.
I have been a teacher for over 20 years and in a variety of different settings. My specialist subjects are Drama and English Literature. I’ve always had a personal interest in the power of talk and I have spent a great deal of my careeer working with young people, developing their voices in school and beyond. I have recently been interested in the flexibility and adaptability oracy strategies offer all teachers in all subjects, and the confidence and opportunities speaking skills can bring to young people. Having witnessed first-hand the immediate impact of talk within the classroom, I’m keen to build a platform which allows educators to share ideas and gain confidence in teaching oracy. For too long we have expected young people to simply know how to talk effectively, often without any direction or explicit teaching. Oracy has to be taught, just as numerous and literacy. We are all teachers of oracy, but this may be an area that teachers feel less confident in teaching. Creative Oracy is a platform for educators to share resources and ideas about the oracy movement and to help continue to build young people’s authentic voices. Check out our teaching strategies page for ideas to get you going. You will find links to other sources to help you build a bank of resources to develop your won teaching practices.
